Maintenance

Health and safety - before starting any work on computer hardware, i ran visual checks of the surrounds which included making all cables connected to the computer were disconnected, the power at the socket was switched off, the surrounding environment was safe to operate in so no obstacles on the floor to trip over, i had enough room to work in, i had an ESD strap to safe guard components from static shock which i connected to the computer casing, taken off any dangling objects that could get tangled or trapped in the computer.

I Used monitoring tools to identify a hardware upgrade which was to install another stick of 512MB RAM. i first turned off the power at the socket and removed the power cable from the computer, then i removed other cables. i turned the computer on its slide slowly and opened it up, attached the ESD strap to my wrist and then to the computer case. i grabbed the stick of RAM and gentley placed it in the slot. then i dettached the ESD strap, put the casing back on, put the computer up properly, plugged in the power cables and all relevant cables
